Recovering from Spiritual Abuse

Experience healing from spiritual harm.

Spiritual abuse can leave lasting wounds, eroding trust in leadership, community, and sometimes even in God. Many who've experienced it carry that pain quietly, unsure where to turn or whether healing is even possible. Recovering from Spiritual Abuse offers a dedicated space for that healing to begin, a place to be understood, to grieve well, and to rebuild trust in relationships and faith at a pace that feels safe.

Group Overview

By the end of the group, participants will be able to define spiritual abuse in its various forms, experience corrective relational experiences, and develop practical ways to care for themselves and others who have experienced spiritual abuse. Participants will learn emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and thought-challenging skills while grieving the impact of past spiritual abuse in a supportive, Christ-centered environment. Through the support of the group, the facilitator, and God, participants will experience greater hope, healing, and relief.

The curriculum will primarily utilize an adapted version of The Spiritual Abuse Recovery Workbook by Dr. Karen Roudkovski. The workbook offers a holistic, 12-week recovery framework that integrates well with GIFT's understanding of caring for people as embodied souls. Participants will receive adapted exercises, reflections, and handouts from the workbook, along with additional material developed from GIFT and topics related to spiritual abuse that are not covered in the workbook.
