Mental Health Awareness Month

May 2026

This May, Redeemer Counseling is inviting you to slow down and simply be. In a culture that prizes speed, we're making space for something different: integration of body and soul.

  • Every year, Mental Health Awareness Month reminds me of why Redeemer Counseling exists, and this year, I'm more energized than ever. We are a part of a culture that moves fast and asks a lot from the people in it, and the need for care that is both clinically excellent and rooted in the gospel has never been more urgent.

Our Campaign Pillars

    Behold

Anchor your mind and heart in something greater than yourself, and begin to see your life — and your healing — with new eyes.

    Be There

Presence is a skill anyone can learn, and equipping the people already on the front lines of mental health is how we change a city.

    Be Present

Unhurried, attentive care — the kind that sits with people through pain without rushing them past it — is at the heart of everything we do.

Behold

Mental health work often begins with paying attention to what anchors us, what overwhelms us, and where we find our center. Before we can care well for others, we must first learn to see clearly: to behold the gospel as a living orientation for daily life rather than as a passive idea.

This week, we're releasing Behold: The God Who Sees Me, a free devotional for anyone longing to slow down and reorient. Through scripture reflection and guided meditation, it invites you to root yourself in something that holds, especially when the pace of life makes that feel impossible.

Being present for someone in a mental health crisis is a skill — and it can be learned. Research shows that 60% of people who sought help from their church for mental illness felt unsupported or abandoned, not because their community didn't care, but because they didn't know how to help.

Redeemer Counseling is pleased to offer two self-guided courses for ministry leaders who want to be equipped to care well for the people around them.

Relational Skills for Ministry: Listening, Asking, and Grieving Well
Gives you the practical tools to listen with empathy, ask questions that open doors, and walk with others through grief — without rushing toward easy answers.

Caring Well in Crisis: A Mental Health First Aid Course
Prepares you to respond wisely when someone in your congregation is struggling — knowing when to refer someone to professional support, how to respond to suicidal ideation with both care and competence, and how to handle disclosures of abuse with integrity.

Presence looks different for every generation — and today's parents are navigating territory no previous generation has faced. Join us for a special conversation with Dr. Margaret Yoon on parenting in the age of AI on Saturday, May 31 from 10am -12pm. With 95% of teens using social media and a growing mental health crisis among young people, parents need more than good instincts — they need tools, community, and support. Dr. Yoon will offer practical wisdom for raising resilient, grounded kids in an overwhelming digital world.

Join us for a workshop designed for parents navigating one of the most pressing challenges of modern family life.

This workshop addresses a timely felt need for parents struggling with teen anxiety and screen time. Join us in learning the neurological risks, peer pressure, and challenges your teens face while learning how to set healthy boundaries in their use of technology. Unlike the incomplete forms of intimacy your teens are experiencing on the web, approach parenting in a way that offers them authentic connection with God, self and others.

Space is limited. Register today and take the first step toward parenting with confidence in the digital age.

Creating a Counselor Referral List (en español )

We're thrilled to announce that Redeemer Counseling is our first Counseling Toolkit in Spanish. Creando una Lista de Referencias de Consejeros is a translation of our popular Creating a Counselor Referral List resource and it's now available to equip ministry leaders who serve Spanish-speaking communities.

This toolkit walks ministry leaders through how to build a thoughtful counselor referral list, understand the range of Christian counseling options available, match individuals to the right level of care, and ask the right questions when vetting counselors.

We pray this toolkit helps bridge the gap for Spanish-speaking communities seeking healing and transformation through counseling and that it strengthens the network of care.

Download the toolkit today and share it with your ministry team.

Be the Difference - Help us raise $50,000 this May!

Research shows that one of the biggest predictors of successful counseling is the quality of the relationship between the client and counselor (Source: Lambert & Wampold).

This is why our team does not leave matching to an algorithm. A clinical supervisor and intake coordinator review each new client together, weighing their needs, preferences, and which of our counselors is the right fit before any appointment is ever scheduled.

A gift of $75 helps match a client with the counselor who best fits their story, needs, and personality.*

When the counseling relationship is strong, clients are more likely to stay in counseling, experience meaningful growth, and build healthier relationships in their lives.

95% of teens ages 13-17 use social media, and more than a third say they use it almost constantly. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 10 adolescents now show signs of problematic use… up from 7% just four years ago.

Many social media platforms are intentionally designed to be habit-forming, using features like infinite scroll, notifications, and algorithmic content to keep users online as long as possible. Teens who spend more than three hours per day on social media are significantly more likely to experience anxiety and depression (Source: U.S. Surgeon General).

Your gift of $250 helps provide counseling and support for teens and young adults struggling with anxiety, isolation, and digital pressure.*

Counseling helps teens and young adults develop resilience, identity, healthy relationships, and stability in an overwhelming digital world.

One person dies by suicide every 11 minutes in the U.S. (Source: CDC).

A gift of $350 sponsors a 1-hour suicide prevention or mental health training workshop for church leaders and ministry staff.*

These trainings help leaders recognize warning signs, respond with care, and support people before they reach a point of crisis.

* Gifts to Redeemer Counseling support our general fund and are used where the need is greatest. Donation amounts listed are illustrative of the impact your gift makes possible.
