Margaret Ji-Hyun Yoon, M.D.

Dr. Margaret Ji-Hyun Yoon is a double board-certified, Harvard-trained child and adult psychiatrist in private practice in New York. She is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center where she teaches and supervises psychiatry trainees at Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical Center to integrate psychiatry and family systems work. She was born and raised in NYC, received her BA in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College, graduated medical school at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, completed general psychiatry training at Cambridge Health Alliance and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital at Harvard. During residency, she also trained in Family Therapy (primarily Narrative approach) and in College and University Mental Health at Harvard University Mental Health Services. She utilizes psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, trauma-informed interpersonal and family-informed approaches to psychotherapy and psychopharmacologic management.

At Redeemer Counseling, Dr. Yoon serves as a psychiatric consultant to our counselors and partners with our Training Team to provide teaching on a variety of topics both locally and online. She is passionate about integrating theological and psychological perspectives to equip ministry leaders for holistic care. She is pursuing a Masters of Divinity through Asbury Theological Seminary to develop a scriptural, Christian understanding of the transmission of family blessings and distress along spiritual, psychological and biological routes to better support families who experience the strain of ministry at all levels. She is happily and energetically raising her own two children with her pastor/surgeon husband in New York City and enjoys science fiction, trying new foods, worship music, and keeping up with teen slang.
